Antioch Christian Church, our "mother" church was established in Page County in 1850.
In early 1918, a group of interested citizens met in homes to plan and organize a Christian Church in Luray. The decided to erect a wooden "tabernacle" to be used for worship until a church could be built.
The first service in the "tabernacle" was held on October 17, 1918 with 40 charter members present.
The first elders of the church were W. L. Rhodes and C. A. Saum. The first deacons were Tom Racer, I. N. Comer, V. F. Aleshire, and J. William Foster.
The cornerstone for our present church was laid on August 15, 1920.
The first service in our present building was a baptismal service on May 19, 1921 when six young people were baptized by Brother F. A. Tinney.
Our church was known as the Luray Church of Christ from its inception until June 26, 1949 when it was officially renamed Luray Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
On September 18, 1979 the name "Memorial Hall" was selected for the new annex. It was named in memory of the church's charter members.
On September 12, 1999 a new addition to the church was dedicated, the "Rhodes/Waye Memorial Annex."
